What it is:
The Chinese Herb Tao Ren is the dried, peeled seed that comes from the fruit of the (wild) peach tree (Prunus persica). It is most commonly used in Chinese Medicine formulas to invigorate blood circulation to address gynecolgical issues surrounding stagnant menses. It is also very good to help resolve bruising, swelling, and pain from traumatic injury (e.g. strains. sprains, bumps & bruises, etc...) and can help speed the healing process of both connective tissue and bone ( cf: Jin Gu Die Shang Wan formula).
Safety Notes:
Contraindicated for use during pregnancy.
Not recommended for use by those with the Chinese diagnosis of Blood deficiency-- pale, sallow complexion, brittle nails and hair, fatigue, etc...
Use with caution of you are taking pharmaeceutical blood thinners.
As a single herb, use in a "targeted" way for a short time-- that is, not for daily use.
This herb has the potential to move the bowels as well.

What else you need to know:
Peach (and nectarine) trees are thought to be native to Western China but have long since been distributed throughout the world. The fruit contains pits, which are cracked open to reveal the smaller seeds within. It is this inner seed that is peeled, sun-dried, and then crushed in preparation for use as medicine.
Suggested usage:
Dosage is 6-10g. Crush the seed first, and then simmer for 30-60 minutes. Dry-frying the seed first increases its action to move the bowels.
