What it is:
Poria Mushroom (Tuckahoe) is a the fruiting body of a fungus that grows around the base of pine trees and is very widely used in Chinese medicine to help "drain dampness" from body. It works with other herbs within the digestive tract to dry things out and improve overall balance and health.
This product specifically is a specialized form of the poria fungus called Bao Mu Fu Shen. This is the inner part of the fungus that grows closet to the root of the host pine tree. It has the same dampness-draining qualities of "regular" Fu ling with the added action of calming the spirit (shen) and reducing anxiety.
As a single herb, you might use this herb as an ingredient in dishes to help aid digestion, in combination with, for instance, aromatic spices from traditional Indian or Italian cuisine that aid & encourage the movement of digestive qi.
You could also experiment with making a broth/tea by simmering this herb for at least 30 minutes if there is water retention/edema.
Safety Note: this herb has a diuretic effect and should be used with caution/under supervision of a trained TCM practitioner when combined with pharmaceutical medications that have diuretic effects
