What is it?:

Chinese Wild Ginger (Xi Xin) is a pungent, warming herb that penetrates to the warm the core of the body when that is the desired effect. It is used as an assistant in Wind-Cold release formulas when head and body aches are prevalent symptoms.

This herb is also helpful to address pain anywhere in the body– particularly headaches and bi pain (i.e. pain and stiffness caused by cold and dampness blocking the channels and collaterals). Xi Xin also helps with chronic low back pain (see the formula Du Huo Ji Sheng Wan), chest congestion and pain, and pain in the lower extremities (again from cold stagnation in the channels).

Asarum also enters the Lung channel and can be helpful with wet, boggy, cold-phlegmy presentations in the lungs (i.e. copious amounts of clear mucus being produced, stuffy headaches, neck/shoulder tension, chest congestion, etc...)

Safety Considerations: Short-term use herb; do not exceed recommended (daily) dosage or take for longer than 2 weeks. Use with caution during pregnancy.

.What is it good for:

  • headaches & body aches (wind-cold);
  • joint pain & stiffness
  • lower back pain & stiffness
  • Wet, boggy, congested conditions on the lungs

It is important to understand that herbs work by restoring balance to the body. This means that you usually have to take an herb or a formula for a longer period of time than you would with pharmaceuticals in order to get results-- usually at least a month, and often times longer than that... it all depends on the individual and the nature of the ailment being addressed.
