What is it?:
Crataegus/Hawthorn Berry Liquid TIncture (Shan Zha Tang) is a liquid extraction of the Chinese Hawthorn berry, which “goes to the Heart” and is used to address heart problems ranging from irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, chest pain, hardening of the arteries, and heart failure. Its action of activating blood circulation and removing stagnation has led to its contemporary use in Chinese hospitals to treat hypertension and various manifestations of coronary artery disease.
In addition to activating blood circulation, it also reduces swelling and disperses blood stagnation. This makes it useful to address abdominal pain associated with dysregulated menses and postpartum issues/conditions and to help relieve hernial pain and swelling.
Shan Zha also aids digestion– it is a main ingredient in formulas used in Chinese Medicine to address food stagnation (e.g. Bao He Wan) as it is especially helpful for digesting red meat and greasy meat/foods.

It is important to understand that Chinese herbs work by restoring balance to the body. This means that you usually have to take an herb or a formula for a longer period of time than you would with pharmaceuticals in order to get results-- usually at least a month, and often times longer than that... it all depends on the individual and the nature of the ailment being addressed.
