What is it?:
Eight Flavor Rehmannia Liquid Tincture (Zhi Bai Di Huang Tang) is a Chinese Medicine formula that is most commonly used in the West to address heat signs associated with menopause, such as hot flashes, night sweats, and "steaming bones" (a condition of deep internal heat causing pain that is often described as "coming from the bones"). Other symptoms that might indicate the use of this formula are dizziness, vertigo, tinnitus, insomnia/disturbed sleep, flushed cheeks, sweaty palms and soles, etc...
Although most known for addressing menopausal symptoms, this formula is equally applicable for men with severe yin deficincy.
What else you might like to know:
More generally speaking, this formula addresses yin deficiency w/heat signs, a state of imbalance in which the cooling, nourishing fluids of the body have been diminished over time from chronic overwork, aging, and/or constitutional factors... think of how a car's engine overheats and steams up if there is not enough coolant in the radiator-- same idea here. Eight Flavor Rehmannia slowly replenishes the body's "coolant" over time to alleviate these heat symptoms.
It is important to understand that Chinese herbs work by restoring balance to the body. This means that you usually have to take an herb or a formula for a longer period of time than you would with pharmaceuticals in order to get results-- usually at least a month, and often times longer than that... it all depends on the individual and the nature of the ailment being addressed.
