What is it?:

Traditionaly, echinacea has most often been used to address respiratory infections such as the common cold, influenza, laryngitis and tonsillitis. It also has a reputation as an immuno-modulator, often being used to address viral symptoms and acute infections by enhancing the immune function.

Echinacea stimulates/modulates the immune system, in particular increasing the activity and volume of white blood cells in order to clean blood and lymph around an infection site. Traditionally, the use of echinacea is associated with lung infections (e.g. viral attacks, catching cold and/or flu. sore throat, swollen tonsils, etc...), but this action of also makes it useful to address infections from wounds, as well as the tissue-rotting effects of various snake and spider venoms.

Echinacea angustifolia vs Echinacea purpurea: which to use (and for what)?

Both species are held in high esteem for their ability to remove toxins from the blood and various internal sub-mucosal linings, fight infection, reduce swelling, and clean the lymphatic system. Which to use is largely a preference of the herbalist. Some will use the flower tops and leafs of E. angustifolia but prefer to use the roots of E. purpurea... or they will combine the two depending on the specific situation they want to address. This is not the place to do a deep dive, but we do offer a variety of product for you to try out on your own.
