What is it?:
Gan Mai Da Zao Tang (Licorice, Wheat & Jujube) is a classical Chinese Herbal Medicine formula (c. 220AD) that nourishes the Heart (qi, yin, and blood) and calms the shen (or spirit)-- for when the Heart is properly nourished, the shen can find its home and rest peacefully. It is most appropriately used for emotional issues/imbalances such as: mood swings, unprovoked crying spells, anxiety/depression/emotional instability, and restless sleep with vivid dreaming (that is disturbing sleep cycles).
What is it good for:
- anxiety & mood swings
- depression (w/unprovoked crying spells)
- insomnia (w/vivid & or disturbed dreaming
What else you might like to know:
This is a great formula for nourishing the body and grounding the Spirit by using it over the course of weeks - months; and although Its primary function is not to address "panic attacks" as such, for the right person an augmented serving can ground the nervous system enough to ameliorate acute symptoms of anxiety in the moment.
It is important to understand that Chinese herbs work by restoring balance to the body. This means that you usually have to take an herb or a formula for a longer period of time than you would with pharmaceuticals in order to get results-- usually at least a month, and often times longer than that... it all depends on the individual and the nature of the ailment being addressed.
