What is it?:
Minor Blue Dragon Liquid Tincture (Xiao Qing Long Tang) is a Chinese Medicine formula for use when you feel like you are just starting to get sick. You may experience some of the following presentations: body ache, fever w/no perspiration, alternating chills and fever (emphasis on the chills), headache, shortness of breath, difficulty drawing breath into the body, and perhaps tightness in the chest & a cough with clear sputum). In terms of TCM theory, this is referred to as a "wind-cold invasion".
If you were to feel some of the above-mentioned symptoms, you might take this formula for a few days to a week (until the symptoms go away). If the symptoms persist beyond this initial period (or have changed appreciably), it probably means that the cold or flu has sunk deeper into the body and established its presence there-- at which point you would need to choose a different formula (based on how the symptoms have changed over time).
What is it good for:
- fever w/no perspiration (alternating with chills)
- head and body aches
- coughing up clear phlegm
- chest constriction/shortness of breath
Traditional Chinese medicine benefits:
- Dispels pathogenic wind cold
- Transforms phlegm fluid
- Warms the lung meridian
-
Descends qi.
What else you might like to know:
In terms of TCM theory, this formula is useful in support of the lungs, respiratory system and immune system after there is weakness of spleen qi with damp; it also supports respiratory/immune system and breathing after exposure to cold air and is considered safe for use with children.
It is important to understand that Chinese herbs work by restoring balance to the body. This means that you usually have to take an herb or a formula for a longer period of time than you would with pharmaceuticals in order to get results-- usually at least a month, and often times longer than that... it all depends on the individual and the nature of the ailment being addressed.
