What is it?:

Pearls (Zhen zhu) - Liquid Tincture form around a grain of sand or other foreign matter in the shells of oysters and other mollusks. Pearls primarily comprise calcium carbonate but also contain amino acids & other minerals as well (e.g. magnesium, zinc, iron, copper, selenium and silicon). Its TCM actions are to nourish the Heart and calm Liver wind-- in practical terms, this means that one can use this herb for:

  • Shen disturbance characterized by such symptoms as neurasthenia, insomnia, palpitations, and being easily frightened.
  • superficial visual obstructions (e.g. pterygium and blurred vision) caused by Liver heat or Liver deficiency... it is almost always combined with other herbs and used as eye drops for this purpose.
  • Topically (in a paste) to help the skin heal (e.g. w/burns & eczema)

What is it good for:

  • anxiety, nervousness, palpitations, and insomnia
  • superficial visual obstructions (e.g. pterygium and blurred vision)
  • beautifying the skin

Traditional Chinese medicine benefits:

  • calms the Liver to anchor rising Liver yang
  • clears the Liver and brightens the eyes

It is important to understand that Chinese herbs work by restoring balance to the body. This means that you usually have to take an herb or a formula for a longer period of time than you would with pharmaceuticals in order to get results-- usually at least a month, and often times longer than that... it all depends on the individual and the nature of the ailment being addressed.

Ingredients: Pearl (Zhen zhu)

Directions for use:

Shake Well before each use.

Maintenance Serving: Dissolve 1-2 droppers (1/2 tsp.) in warm water or juice 2-3 times daily.

Augmented Serving: Take 1 full tsp. 2 to 3 times daily in warm water or juice or as directed by a qualified herbalist familiar with the use of Chinese herbs and formulas.

To evaporate alcohol place in hot water.
